Arty's Smarty Doors (Lindsey Johnston)
The objective for these games is for children to learn and use the alphabetic principle; the relationships between written letters and spoken sounds. The game is engaging because the students have to choose which doors have the matching rhyming word. There are pictures that go with each word to help the struggling students. This game is appealing because it allows the students to see pictures as they choose the correct rhyming words. |

Clifford the Big Red Dog: Sound Match Activity (Michelle Gross)
This activity helps students identify words that begin with the same sound. They are given a picture and must find seven other objects that begin with that same sound. This ideal for younger children because it is a simple fun matching game. They will be building phonemic awareness as well as building a larger vocabulary. |

Clifford Letter Match
This game is for early learners, I would say preschool or Kindergarten. The objective of the game is to get all the words placed in the correct box. There are two boxes with with a letter on each. Students then have to place the words surrounding Clifford into the box that has the same first letter and sound. The words can be read and when the word is clicked on it is heard. I would say that this game is appealing because the words are colorful and when you put a word in the box Clifford barks. |

Build A Word
This game is a place for the students to practice their spelling words. The objects of the game is to make words using the online paper and dragging the letters to make words. There is a timer involved so the students could time themselves and see how long it takes them to create as many words as possible. This game could be very engaging. If the students have more than one computer, they could race each other. |

Alien Scavenger Hunt
This game requires the player to use the target to hit the word that is heard. The user must hit both the initial sound, and also the ending sound. For example, "toy." You must hit, "t" and "oy". This requires good listening skills. It is easiest to leave the target in the middle and wait for the word to fly by, rather than chase it around the screen. |

Clifford Sound Match
This phonemic awareness game is designed to allow students to practice their initial sound identification skills. To play the game students are asked to find all of the pictures that have the same initial sound as a given picture. This game would be grate for non- readers because the game is played using pictures rather than words, and I also feel the game would be beneficial for older students who struggle with initial sound identification. |

See-N-Spell
This is a site that has you spell words that match a picture. The game I picked is one with consonant diagraphs. Each picture contains a consonant digraph and the students have to manipulate the letters and then they can check their work after each spelling. |

SuperWhy! Wonder Red's Freeze Dance Rhyming
This game starts with letting students see the and hear the rhyming word family then the student clicks on the world that rhymes. And if they cannot remember what it sounds like, then there is a help button at the top that repeats the sound of the rhyming word family. Then when the student finds appropriate rhyming words then Wonder Red freezes (stops dancing) then does a wonderific dance move! I found this very engaging so that students will be able to learn how to rhyme words and in a fun way! |

Alien Scavenger Hunt
This is a great game for children learning phonics and spelling. They are given words and have to catch the "letter bugs" that make up the words. I think that this game would be best for students in the primary grade levels or those in the upper grade levels that a really struggling with phonics. This game would be very helpful for those students that have trouble combining the letters and their sounds. It's really fun to play too! |

Golden Crown Spelling Bee
In this game, you listen to the letter sounds and click on the letters to make words. I liked that you could choose to use upper or lower case letters, and thought this was an appealing game for kids. The sounds were good and I like that they could print something at the end to celebrate their accomplishments. Kids also earn other printable prizes as they play this and other games on the PBS site. There were a lot of different games similar to this one that would also be good to use for phonemic awareness. |

Lanolin's Greenhouse
This is a great game that is great for identifying phonemic sounds, as well as beginning sounds. "Lanolin's Greenhouse" includes fun characters, and catchy music any child would enjoy! Even one of favorite childhood friends Garfield can be seen on this game. |
